COME ONE, COME ALL!

…To a party. What’s going on in Weldon? Come and find out!

In a significant stride towards community engagement and civic participation, Weldon In Action is thrilled to announce its recent achievement of securing a grant from A Better Chance, A Better Community (ABC2). The grant can be utilized to host in-person watch parties for town council, school board, and municipal agencies' meetings. The primary objective is to foster a sense of community involvement, encourage active citizenship, and collectively work towards a brighter future for Weldon.

Weldon In Action, one of six recipients of an ABC2 grant to foster civic engagement, will host several Watch Parties in the New Year for citizens to observe, listen, learn, and engage in affairs of our community.

Weldon In Action will create an open forum for community members to express their thoughts and ideas. The watch parties will not only involve passive observation but actively encourage residents to voice their opinions and engage in discussions about key issues facing the town.

ABC2 is sponsoring Watch parties in towns around Halifax County to enable citizens to come together to observe proceedings, to discuss topics of interest and concern, and to create networks and to build coalitions to improve our communities.

Each group will gather to observe a town council meeting, a school board meeting, or other municipal meeting, then to discuss findings and highlights.  Summaries will be shared with the broader community to inform and to encourage broad participation. By fostering a culture of open communication, Weldon In Action hopes to create a stronger bond between the community and its governing bodies.

We envision a town where every resident feels empowered and motivated to actively contribute to its growth and prosperity. The ABC2 grant provides the necessary resources to make these watch parties a reality, marking a significant step towards building a stronger, more connected community.

And, you know there can’t be a party without refreshments.  So, come when you see the announcement of time and place.  Observe! Engage! Participate! Learn about Weldon!  Be part of building a bright future in a strong community!

We are just getting started!

Your Watch Party Team,

Andrea Irby, Kayla Taylor, Ceasar Neville

WIA Vision: We believe in Weldon: a thriving and inclusive town with a strong sense of community, welcoming to all people and an attractive place for economic development.
